Prunotto, Barbera d’Alba ‘Pian Romualdo’ 2022

Founded in 1904 near Alba, Prunotto is a historic Piedmontese estate now under the Antinori umbrella. Spanning roughly 70 ha across Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato, the estate is led by oenologist Gianluca Torrengo. Prunotto emphasises terroir expression through sustainable practices, precise vineyard work, and elegant winemaking. Their repertoire ranges from DOC Barbera to prestigious Barolo and Barbaresco crus, consistently combining regional tradition with modern refinement. Brilliant red-purple with ruby highlights. The generous nose shows ripe black cherry, plum, and spice. On the palate it’s full-bodied yet fresh, delivering juicy blackberry, dark plum, liquorice, and a touch of vanilla from oak; vibrant acidity and silky tannins create elegant harmony. A lingering, savoury finish with soft spice and fruit makes it a poised, confident interpretation of Barbera d’Alba.
