Paolo Bea, Montefalco Pipparello Riserva 2012
With roots in the hilltop Umbrian town of Montefalco going back as far as 1500, Paolo Bea is everything you want in a quintessential, traditional Italian wine grower: artisanal, hands-on and completely organic. Pipparello Riserva 2012 is a blend of 60% Sangiovese, 25% Montepulciano and 15% Sagrantino - for a refined, blended Italian red it doesn't get much better than this. Deep ruby in colour, with a complex nose of wild raspberry, smoked vanilla, juniper and leather; it leads onto an utterly opulent and intense palate of juicy cherries, chocolate and black truffle. It's a phenomenal food wine but we recommend it's decanted for at least 2 hours prior to serving.
