Panevino, Onna Rosso 2019

Flag of Italy

Starting life as a baker, Gianfranco Manca moved into winemaking in the mid 80s (Panevino literally meaning "bread-wine"), however it wasn't until 2005 where he felt he was ready to offer his wines to the rest of the world. His wines are unique in that they're made in minuscule quantities (usually c.200 bottles) and he never makes the same wine twice; so enjoy, because the anarchic genius you see in your glass will never be seen again. Onna Rosso 2019 is a blend of Ciliegiolo, Barbera and Montepulciano; exhilarating aromas of violets, oregano and balsamic are backed up by a feisty punch of dark cherry and plum on the palate. This is a wine which needs decanting for an hour before being enjoyed with rich meaty dishes.
