Gratavinum, 2πR 2021
A family owned winery dating back to 1790, Parés Baltà now owns five estates across the Penedès mountains, including Gratavinum, which was developed to show the very best of Priorat. The variety of the soils and elevation create unique microclimates that give a special personality to their wines. Organic viticulture is at the heart of the operation, with the team at Parés Baltà even using its own flock of sheep to fertilise the vineyard and bees for pollination during the flowering season - how good. 2πR (the length of the circumference) is so called as it's just about as well-rounded a wine as it's possible to make. Made from a blend of biodynamically farmed Carignan, Garnacha, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, it has an amazingly aromatic intensity and complexity. Notes of juicy blueberry, black plum and bramble move to more intricate flavours of tobacco, leather and vanilla on the palate. Its boldness is tempered with a good acidity and well-integrated tannins, and is definitely a wine which will leave you wanting more on the long velvety finish.
