Mavrud

Mavrud (or Mavroudi in Greece) is a black-skinned grape native to Bulgaria. Mavrud produces wines which are inky in colour, with rich tannins and a bright acidity. It's a rare grape to come across these days, but makes supremely delicious, age-worthy wine not too dissimilar from Italy's Barbera.
