Peter Lehmann, Layers Adelaide White 2019

Flag of Australia

Peter Lehmann set up his winery in 1979 following the excessive amount of grapes going to waste in Australia's Barossa Valley. By telling farmers he would buy their grapes but only pay once he had sold the wine, he actually saved a lot of Barossa's now world-famous old vines which otherwise would have been ripped up to make way for other (and back then more profitable) crops. Layers Adelaide White 2019 is an aromatic blend of 49% Semillon, 20% Muscat Blanc, 19% Gewürztraminer and 12% Pinot Gris. On the nose, there are aromas of citrus zest, peach and white flowers with a hint of lifted spice. The finely-structured, lemon-tinged Sémillon supports the soft floral aromatics of Muscat Blanc and the delicate spice of Gewürztraminer. The Pinot Gris provides texture and mouthfeel to the mid-palate with the finish equal parts crisp and fresh. This pairs really with well aromatic Thai curries.
