Okanagan Crush Pad, Haywire Gamay 2021

Originally starting out as a purpose-built grape crushing facility, Okanagan Crush Pad turned their talents to producing their own wines in 2011. Since then they have gone from strength-to-strength and are now one of the most exciting fully organic wineries in British Columbia. Gamay 2021 is about as pure a Gamay as it's possible to get. The reason for this is that it's fermented in concrete tanks (which don't impart any flavour into the wine) instead of oak barrels. Really bright aromas of raspberries and a little dusting of chocolate jump out on the nose, which leads onto a smoothly textured palate with some juicy strawberry and earthy notes. As with all good Gamay, it's even better when slightly chilled and enjoyed with lighter meats & cheeses.
