Man O' War, Dreadnought 2018

On the challenging and remote landscape of Waiheke Island in Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf you’ll find Man O’ War. The name for the winery is taken from the magnificent Kauri trees which stand amongst the vine; they made ideal masts for the Royal Navy's Man O’ War warships, and thus the name Man O’ War was bestowed upon this special place. Dreadnought is made with 100% Syrah. It has gorgeous savoury elements with blue and black fruits, crushed flowers, graphite, a touch of liquorice and an earthy smoky lift. The palate is very classical with medium weight. Some sweet fruit will be evident in its youth but there is a long lean frame underneath. The tannins are influenced by stem inclusion which gives a fresh sappy introduction to the more robust seed and oak tannin. An excellent vintage and a wine to treasure.
