Gem, Sauvignon Blanc 2009

Husband-Wife team, Corey and Meg (Gem) Hall have been making age-worthy Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir since 2005. Often waiting years until they release their wines, they really go to show that if you have amazing fruit and equally amazing expertise, it is possible to make awesome age-worthy wine from grapes which are traditionally drank young. Take their Sauvigon Blanc, which is now at a whopping 14 years of age (ancient for a Sauvignon Blanc) yet still going strong. The fruit was taken from some of the best sites in Marlborough before being left on their lees for 12-months, enhancing the body. The wine was then aged in bottle for 8 years prior to release. In all that time it's really taken on gorgeously vibrant tropical flavours with notes of passion fruit, guava, lychee, lemon and cream; however, it still has a nice citrussy acidity showing there is still some life in it yet. Great with richer shellfish dishes like clams.
