El Mozo, Malaspiedras 2021

With 9.5 hectares of old bush vines from both their families on some of the most prime plots in the region, friends Gorka & Itxaso are determined to make pure Rioja wines that respect the almost lost traditions and history of both their families and this rich winemaking region. Malaspiedras 2021 is made from organically farmed Tempranillo taken from 80 year-old vines sitting at 560m above sea level. A smooth red wine with notes of juicy strawberry and blackberry intermingled with flavours of violet and a subtle spicy hint. The palate is fresh, with marked tannins and is very easy to drink. A superb pair with gamey dishes.
