Domaine du Valbrun, Bois Pivain 2022

Now into their third generation of family ownership, Domaine du Valbrun are one of our favourite Loire Valley producers. Based mainly in Saumur, they farm totally biodynamically and focus on the grape varieties and styles which the Loire does best whilst properly promoting biodiversity across all of their vineyards. Bois Pivain 2022 is made from 100% Cabernet Franc, from 40 year old vines grown on the clay-limestone soils of Saumur-Champigny. The grapes were hand-harvested and then aged for 8 months in stainless steel to retain freshness and purity in the wine. Deep ruby red in colour with violet reflections, it has a delicate nose of blackcurrant, raspberry, liquourice, raspberry and green bell pepper. The palate is silky with a beautiful freshness, soft tannins and toasty-smooth finish. A versatile wine when it comes to food, equally at home with poultry or red meats.
