Domaine Zouina, Volubilia Rouge 2021

Flag of Morocco

Located in just outside the city of Meknes in northern Morocco, Domaine de la Zouina has been producing wine for over 120 years. Since 2002 it has been headed up by Gérard Gribelin and Philippe Gervoson, two of the biggest winemaking names in Bordeaux. Using their wine know-how and Morroco's unique terroir, they produce wines which reflects the power and refinement of their sunny and warm land. Volubilia Rouge 2021 is made from a really interesting blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah and 20% Tempranillo. The grapes were harvested and aged for 18 months in concrete eggs, which softens the wine without adding any flavours (i.e. the opposite of oak). Rich, fruity & spicy; the nose has aromas of bramble, blackcurrant, tobacco and clove. The palate is medium-bodied with balanced, fine tannins and rounded acidity. More dark fruity flavours are on the palate which carries the long finish. A perfect pair with BBQ meats, steaks, or mature cheese.
