Cataldo Calabretta, Ansonica 2019

Cataldo Calabretta heads up a group of young winemakers, working organically and with low intervention throughout Calabria, Italy. Cataldo is now a fourth generation winemaker, and his knowledge of the local terroir, indigenous grape varieties and traditional Calabrian techniques is second to none. Ansonica 2019 is a stunning orange wine made from 100% Ansonica (also known as Inzolia). With the vineyard set just 300m from the Ionian sea, the grapes fully benefit from everything the Mediterranean climate has to offer. Intense yellow, almost golden in colour, striking notes of white flowers are backed up by aromas of sundried fruit and hazelnuts. The palate is quite full bodied, yet with great persistence thanks to the moreish salinity typical of both the Ansonica variety and where these particular grapes were grown.
