Bodega Lanzaga, Corriente 2020

Telmo Rodríguez, the mind behind Rioja's amazing Remelluri winery, began buying forgotten vineyards across the region in 1994 with a vision of revitalising the "true" Rioja. Now operating as Bodega Lanzaga, they focus on high altitude sites with a history of viticulture, bringing both wine production and this key local culture back to rural Spain. Corriente 2020 is made from 100% old-vine Tempranillo taken from two sites across the villages of Labastida and Lanciego, and fermented in a mixture of concrete foudre and oak barrel. A nose of wet-stone minerals, blackberries, red cherries and some roasted spices follow through to a bone-dry, medium-to-full-bodied palate, with an even distribution of firm and fine-grained tannins. A great wine to pair with grilled dishes or cheese.
